$50,000 to LGH Women’s & Children’s Services Ward

Richardson’s Harley-Davidson dealership owner, Simon Hrycyszyn, Clifford Craig Foundation CEO, Vanessa Cahoon, and Richardson’s Harley-Davidson Marketing & Events Manager, Lindelle Curran-Hrycyszyn with the $50,000 cheque for LGH.

A special thank you to Richardson’s Harley-Davidson for donating $50,000 to the Women’s and Children’s Services Ward 4OB this month. This enables the purchase of two dedicated ultrasound machines on the ward. This donation is made possible as part of Richardson Harley-Davidson’s longstanding support of the LGH through their birthday celebrations including a community raffle. Simon, Lindelle and the Richardson’s Harley-Davidson team is a family business and their generous donation ensures children and young families within Northern Tasmania have equitable access to care when they need it most.

“This is our biggest fundraising event. We sell 1,000 tickets and it’s been ongoing for 10 years, although we’ve been involved with various charities for over 30 years. It’s very well supported by the local community and we are impressed even with the cost of living that the Tasmanian community has come forward and supported our fundraising,” said Richardson’s Harley-Davidson owner, Simon Hrycyszyn.

For the Richardson Harley-Davidson business, they have been able to confidently assure community supporters this fundraising donation is going directly toward to purchase of hospital equipment.

“We are interested to continue this fundraising towards the hospital and maintain this connection to find out what the equipment needs are and working towards helping where we can. As a parent of seven children, I feel fortunate our kids didn’t need hospital care when they were little but lots of families do, and not everyone can afford medical attention. Some of the equipment we have fundraised for in the past has helped families get the treatment they need here rather than a trip interstate and that’s what makes a difference,” Mr Hrycyszyn said.

Richardson’s Harley-Davidson Marketing & Events Manager, Lindelle Curran-Hrycyszyn, said members of the community supported the fundraising raffle multiple times during their visits to the dealership which demonstrated the strong motivation in Northern Tasmania to improve health equity in the region.

“We have such a strong following and we do lots to financially support various charities in Launceston. We put in a lot of work to run these events and ensure they’re a wonderful day out for the community. We do community rides and get behind things like the Christmas Drive, but this birthday event is our biggest of the year and as a family-owned business we are committed to supporting our local hospital,” she said.

Launceston General Hospital Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Dr Frank Clark, is the Clinical Director of the Women’s and Children’s Services Ward at the hospital and says donations from the local community with direct instructions can ensure fundraising efforts are targeted and impactful.

“Donations like this from the local business community really do make a practical difference. Women’s and Children’s Services at the LGH manages the only birth suite in greater Launceston. It is imperative for the provision of safe and evidence-based care that up-to-date equipment is available for monitoring pregnant women in labour, ensuring the safety of themselves and their babies. This $50,000 donation will enable us to purchase two new, battery powered, (hence always turned on ready for use in emergency situations), ultrasound machines for the birth suite, contributing significantly to the total cost. On behalf of the Launceston General Hospital we thank Richardson’s Harley-Davidson for their loyal support. This donation particularly helps purchase of vital hospital equipment, enabling the provision of quality care for young families in the region,” said Dr Frank Clark, LGH Clinical Director for Women and Children’s Services.
