An enchanting evening of elegance and giving
The Clifford Craig Foundation’s Diamond of the Season Masquerade Gala Ball brought elegance, generosity, and theatrical flair to Launceston on Friday, 8 May, as 300 supporters gathered at the Hotel Grand Chancellor for an evening of celebration and community spirit.
Guests arrived dressed to impress, embracing a Regency-inspired theme that transformed the ballroom into a scene reminiscent of a grand society gathering. Flowing gowns, tailored coats, intricate masks, and period accessories lent an air of refinement, with Launceston’s high society stepping out in style for one of the Foundation’s most anticipated events of the year.
Entertainment throughout the evening elevated the experience, with captivating performances by Encore Theatre Company and Palmers Dance Studio. Their energetic displays combined elegance, storytelling, and technical precision, drawing enthusiastic applause from the audience. Guests were also invited to participate, adding a lively and interactive dimension that blurred the line between performer and spectator - from an elegant group waltz to an outrageously enthusiastic Nutbush - Launces-ton City Limits.
A highlight of the evening was the sumptuous three-course banquet, enjoyed by all as guests connected and celebrated in an atmosphere of warmth and purpose. Conversation and laughter flowed across the elegantly set tables, underscoring the sense of community that defines the Foundation’s events.
Fundraising efforts proved exceptionally successful. The live auction generated remarkable enthusiasm, with spirited bidding driving prices to impressive heights in support of local health programs. The silent auction kept guests engaged until the final moments, with last-minute bids pushing totals to a record-breaking contribution. Adding a playful twist, a raffle-style game inspired by “Society Papers” rumours brought intrigue and excitement mid-evening.
By the close of the night, the generosity of attendees had delivered a significant impact, reinforcing the importance of local giving in supporting vital healthcare services. Guests danced the night away to Havana Nights and this author has it on good authority a full dancefloor was enjoyed until very late into the evening.
The Clifford Craig Foundation extends its sincere thanks to its valued sponsors and supporters: NAB, JB Were, Flying Colours, St Lukes, JMC, Nutrien, Montile, Snooze, MAIB, Sara Redman, McKillops, VJAM, Encore Theatre Company, Hotel Grand Chancellor and Matson Catering.
