Support our 2022 Research Appeal

At the Clifford Craig Foundation our mission has always been to improve the health outcomes of Tasmanians living in the state’s North and North-West.

At the very heart of this is medical research, because we know that research really is the best medicine.

Health professionals are passionate about finding better cures and treatments for the illnesses that impact our community, but they need your help to do so.

As the financial year comes to a close we would like to ask you to consider making a tax-deductible donation in support of the ground-breaking medical research being conducted at the Launceston General Hospital – the acute referral hospital for the state’s North and North-West.

Why your clinicians are passionate about the work they do:

Dr Lauren Giles

“The Clifford Craig Foundation has allowed me to establish neurology research in Northern Tasmania, particularly in the areas of MND and MS. This allows us to bring high-quality multicentre clinical trials to our local population, and in turn gives people living in Northern and North-West Tasmania the opportunity to trial new treatments.

“Ultimately, this gives us hope that we can work towards improving treatment and eventually finding cures for these devastating diseases. This work wouldn’t be possible without the financial support and research expertise of the Clifford Craig Foundation.”

Professor Richard Turner

“I have always been interested in the “bigger picture” and have a strong commitment to improving the patient journey, straddling the divide between hospital and community.”

Professor Katie Flanagan

“Clifford Craig Foundation support has been fundamental to my ability to conduct research projects in Launceston.

“Furthermore, the funds received from CCF have allowed me to generate preliminary data to obtain competitive research funding at a national level.

“Their support has allowed me to stay in Tasmania and serve the local community as an infectious diseases physician while conducting internationally relevant research, including studies related to COVID-19.”

Emma Szycman

“I am very interested in research in endoscopy specifically and believe that over the years to come, I will be involved in some great and beneficial research to the patients, unit and hospital.”

Dr Sukhwinder Sohal

“I was a curious kid growing up and always keen on the medicine and science.

“I was intrigued by how different organs perform in the body at the same time and during my studies I became fascinated by the lungs.

“Tasmania has a high number of smokers and the number that are vaping continues to rise, so research in this area is critical.”

Associate Professor Heinrich Weber

“Respiratory disease is still a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide and is an area of great need.

“My interest in research was sparked by my exposure to clinical dilemmas faced in managing children with respiratory problems, especially the additional challenges that are posed in regional and rural areas.”
