Clifford Craig CEO Peter Milne says ‘bye to the tie’

March 2024

Congratulations to Peter Milne, who has retired as CEO of the Clifford Craig Foundation after more than 15 years.

Peter joined the Foundation as Chief Executive Officer in 2009.

His final day will be March 28, ending a career that has grown the Foundation into a well-governed, influential organisation that has improved the access and outcomes of healthcare for many in Northern Tasmania.

Prior to his appointment at Clifford Craig, Peter enjoyed an extensive career in broadcast media.

He worked as an announcer at Radio 7EX for several years before moving to television at Southern Cross where he was employed 21 years as Promotions and Marketing Manager.

Peter is the fourth CEO to lead the Clifford Craig Foundation, which was founded in 1992 as the health promotion charity supporting the Launceston General Hospital.

In the past 32 years, the Foundation has funded more than 220 medical research projects, valued at more than $7 million.

During his time with the Foundation, Peter developed an absolute passion for the important role the Foundation undertakes on behalf of the community.

He has also played a pivotal role in expanding the Foundation’s philanthropic support, including funding for clinical education, scholarships and the purchase of life-saving medical equipment and improved patient facilities at the LGH.

Peter was also instrumental in many years of consultation, lobbying and strategic planning for the establishment of a dedicated research and innovation centre at the LGH, which is now entering the final stages of design.

Clifford Craig Foundation Chairman Dr John Batten AM thanked Peter for his years of service.

“Peter Milne has been the face and voice of the Clifford Craig foundation for the last 15 years, but like all good things, his stewardship of the Foundation is coming to an end,” Dr Batten said.

“Peter is stepping down at the end March, ending a career that has grown this Foundation into a well-governed, influential organisation that has improved the access and outcomes of healthcare for many in Northern Tasmania.

“Over his tenure, by virtue of his energy, enthusiasm, innovation, humour and gentle humility, has grown and nurtured a high-performance team – gaining community trust, consolidating our reputation as the charity of choice in Northern Tasmania.

“I speak on behalf of the Board and Staff of the Clifford Craig Foundation when I say the landmark achievements of the Foundation in recent years have been underpinned by Peter’s vision. He leaves a stellar legacy for the community of Northern Tasmania.”

Vanessa Cahoon has succeeded Peter as the new CEO of the Clifford Craig Foundation, and formally joined the team in March.

Peter will continue in a part-time consultancy role with the Foundation to see through the development of the Research and Innovation Centre.
