Every year in Australia, more than 2000 women endure the pain of a stillbirth. Sadly, up to 600 families lose their baby in the first 28 days after birth.

With a number of teammates experiencing this hardship first-hand, members of the F45 Cavaliers Netball Club decided to use their platform to raise awareness for an inspiring cause.

Earlier this year they designated a round to raise funds for infancy and pregnancy loss. It was one of the most well-attended matches of the season.

Many families reached out to the Cavaliers with their stories of heartache.

While everyone had different experiences, Cavaliers co-coach Danni Carstens said one common theme was the wish for something tangible to remember their little ones by.

With the round raising more than $2000, the club has now allocated funds for the Launceston General Hospital to go towards making lasting memories for bereaved families.

Partnering with Twinkle Toes Baby Hand & Feet Sculptures, LGH patients who experience infancy or pregnancy loss will now be offered framed hand a feet sculptures free of charge.

“It would be great if the funds aren’t used and just sit there. But unfortunately, the statistics show it will happen,” Danni explained.

“We want to make it easier for families to access this service.”

The club has already been able to support one family so far, with plans for an annual designated round to raise ongoing funds for this important initiative.
