Jonathan Mulford

An orthopaedic surgeon with a strong interest in clinical research,  Dr Mulford’s career spans more than two decades and multiple continents.

After completing his medical degree with honours at the University of Tasmania, he was an intern at the Royal Hobart Hospital before completing his basic surgical training between it and the Launceston General Hospital. In 2000 he moved to Sydney and completed orthopaedic training, and went on to work at the Prince of Wales and Concord hospitals. His career includes posts in North America and Europe, working with internationally recognised leaders in the fields of hip, knee, wrist and trauma surgery. He also gained a Diploma of Clinical Research from the University of London.

From 2008 he was a specialist orthopaedic surgeon at Sydney Orthopaedic Specialists, Balmain Sports Medicine, Sydney University Sports Medicine, Sydney Sports Medicine Centre. He was appointed at Prince of Wales Public and Private Hospitals, before relocating back to his home state of Tasmania in 2013. Here, he opened Tamar Valley Orthopaedics and began working at the Launceston General Hospital and Calvary St Lukes Hospital.

In 2016 he was appointed the Orthopaedic Department Head of Unit and Director of Training at the LGH and in 2018 he commenced the Launceston Arthroplasty and Trauma fellowship. This is an AOA accredited fellowship that involves all the surgeons at the Launceston General Hospital.
