In what’s been described as the ultimate team bonding exercise, a group of Launceston General Hospital staff have dared to bare (almost) all for a good cause.

About 100 LGH midwives, nurses and doctors have embraced their cheeky side for a new risqué calendar – Madwives and Crew  - in support of Relay for Life.

A follow up to the hospital’s inaugural 2020 Madwives calendar, the latest instalment features about 96 models mostly from the hospital’s Women’s and Children’s services and was coordinated by midwives Penni Ives and Kylie Burns.

With the number of eager participants almost double to what was featured in the 2020 calendar edition, Ms Ives said the experience definitely helped lift morale after a challenging few years.

“It’s fair to say it’s been a pretty stressful 18 months for everyone at the hospital,” she said.

“Looking at how many additional staff wanted to be involved in the calendar this time around, it was clear the benefits go far beyond just raising funds.

“I think the experience has definitely brought us all much closer together.

“It’s been a lot of fun.”

Launched in October during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Madwives and Crew calendar features hospital staff posing in some of Northern Tasmania’s most iconic locations, including Princess Theatre.

Ms Ives said it was intended to serve as a celebration of body positivity and an homage to the vulnerability faced by patients fighting cancer, with the 2020 edition raising an incredible $11,000.

The 2022 calendar is available for $20 and is being sold at Rhubarb for Gifts stores in Launceston.
