Influenza Vaccine Research Trials
17 Oct 2017
We are currently funding a trial led by Associate Professor Kate Flanagan who is researching the affects of the influenza vaccine in older people. The research aims to understand the reasons behind why the flu vaccine is less effective for older patients and how this can be overcome.
In the last year, 21 lives have been lost in Tasmanian nursing homes from influenza. Utilising state of the art immunology techniques, Assoc. Prof. Kate Flanagan aims to discover how the vaccine can be improved to reduce this number of in the future.
The trial is calling on the help of hundreds of volunteers aged between 20 – 50 or over 65 who haven’t been vaccinated this year to participate in the trial.
