Optimising Outcomes in Cardiac Rehabilitation – Exercise and Behaviour Change ($35,464)
A grant has been awarded to Dr Andrew Williams and Dr Bhuwan Singh for this important study focussed on cardiac rehabilitation.
Exercise physiologists provide exercise counselling for clients suffering from chronic disease. However, to date there is no research available to confirm or refute the efficacy of this approach in producing meaningful improvements in the health of the client. In cardiac rehabilitation patients undergo exercise rehabilitation combined with education, to actively influence their long term prognosis. While the benefits of undergoing cardiac rehabilitation are clear, there is a shortage of literature regarding the optimal exercise intervention. This investigation will aim to determine the effectiveness of the addition of individualised counselling from an exercise physiololgist to a hospital based cardiac rehabilitation program.
