Epilepsy in Tasmania – how does it affect people in the North West region compared to other regions ($54,780)
The Tasmanian Epilepsy Register (TER) is the first community-based register of Epilepsy established anywhere in the world. By enrolling over 1200 patients in the state taking anticonvulsant medications it will provide a comprehensive, representative community model of treated epilepsy. Once enrolled, the baseline survey, currently being conducted, will allow valuable regional comparisons of how common different types of epilepsy are, the specific treatments being used, and how common important public health problems are in this population (eg injuries and mood disturbances). It is hoped this public health approach to this disorder will contribute to the improved management of people with epilepsy in North Western Tasmania and the wider Tasmanian community. Due to its uniqueness the findings from this health project are expected to have major national and international significance. Funded by the North West Medical Research fund.

Tasmania's Clifford Craig Medical Research Trust was established in 1991.
