Effect of variant gene expression on antibiotic resistance in influenza ($2900)
This project will not immediately benefit the health of Tasmanians, but has implications for future benefits as it will increase our understanding of antibiotic resistance, which is a real clinical problem.
It will be conducted in Tasmania and continue a specific research thread previously funded by the Clifford Craig Medical Research Trust. This continued funding will strengthen the research profile and publication record of researcher, Stephen Tristram, which will be important in subsequent applications for external research funding.
Previous support of this research by the Clifford Craig Medical Research Trust has resulted in one peer review publication, with an additional paper submitted and under consideration, and the completion of an honours thesis (Ms Rebecca Hawes).
This project will be undertaken at the School of Life Sciences, Newnham Campus, University of Tasmania.

Tasmania's Clifford Craig Medical Research Trust was established in 1991.
