36: Tasmania's first Familial Bowel Cancer Register

Establishment of Tasmania’s first Familial Bowel Cancer Register. ($250,000 over 5 years)

The third Dare Shott Memorial Lecture addressed the increasing prevalence of Bowel Cancer in our society and created a huge amount of interest both in the media and in the community. As a result, the Clifford Craig Medical Research Trust took the initiative to establish a much needed and long overdue register for Familial Bowel Cancer for Tasmania. As the only state in Australia without this important life saving tool in the fight to identify early risk of the disease, this is an important initiative for State medical services.

The project received enthusiastic support from one particularly generous benefactor who assisted in the establishment of a strategic partnership with a consortium of Lions Clubs in Tasmania, the Cancer Council of Tasmania and the Clifford Craig Trust as major contributors
