(Also refer to Project 39)
“Evaluation of the effect of an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor on the progression of renal disease” ($134,000)

A grant was awarded to researcher Associate Professor Rob Fassett to investigate the effects of atorvostatin on renal function Considerable progress has been made over the past decade in understanding the factors that contribute to the progression of renal disease. Hypertension, proteinuria, and dyslipidemia have been identified as independent risk factors for the progression of renal disease. Medication can be used to produce modification of blood pressure and also reduce proteinuria.
